Upholstered Bed Frames

An upholstered bed frame is a bedstead with fabric or another upholstery material covering parts of its structure. This commonly includes a padded headboard and may extend to the side rails and footboard. The internal frame and mattress-supporting base vary between designs.

The difference between an upholstered bed frame and a divan is their construction. A bed frame typically has separate side rails and a headboard surrounding the mattress-supporting base, while a divan uses a box-style base beneath the mattress. Both can have fabric upholstery.

Upholstered bed frames can be comfortable for sitting up in bed when the headboard provides suitable padding and height. Consider your mattress depth, sitting position and pillow arrangement when choosing a design. The level of cushioning varies between models.
