Serveware

Serveware is the range of dishes, bowls, platters, trays and accessories used to present and serve food or drinks at the table. Unlike individual dinnerware, these pieces are generally intended for shared dishes and entertaining.

The serveware you need depends on the meals you regularly prepare and how often you entertain. A versatile starting collection might include a large serving bowl, platter, serving board, tray and jug, with more specialist pieces added as needed.

The main difference between dinnerware and serveware is that dinnerware is used for individual place settings, while serveware is used to present and serve food for the table. Dinnerware typically includes dinner plates, side plates and bowls used by each person, whereas serveware includes larger items such as serving platters, serving bowls and dishes. Both can be coordinated to create a practical and cohesive dining table.

For hosting a dinner party, consider serving bowls, platters and dishes alongside appropriate serving utensils, dinnerware, cutlery and glassware. Choosing pieces that coordinate in colour, material or style can help create a more considered dining table.
