This summer, treat your outdoors like an extension of your interiors, with these three garden trends – the perfect way to spruce up your space! Whether you want to create a quiet, cosy retreat or a bright, colourful paradise (like we’ve done with our Naples rattan dining set), here are a few ways you can breathe new life into your garden or patio, so you can enjoy the sun in style.
Undoubtedly one of the most popular trends of last winter, the Danish concept of ‘hygge’ achieved viral fame in the interior design world and beyond. Although typically associated with staying warm and snuggly in the colder months, this trend can easily be adapted for your outdoor area in the warmer months.
Our Antilles daybed is the perfect place to create a dreamy wonderland right in your own garden. Although the set comes with plump cushions of its own, add even more to amp up the cosy factor – opt for touchable textures and neutral hues, like our Spiky cushion in white and our Pebble cushion in taupe. Once the sun sets and temperatures cool down, having a furry throw – like our Crawford throw in grey – will come in handy for keeping warm. Finish off the look by adding a few large candles in these glass Hurricane holders: nothing says ‘hygge’ like lots of soft candlelight!
If you want to cheer up your garden with a seasonal, sunny look, then bold and bright is the way to go. Nothing says summer quite like eye-catching prints and vibrant hues.
What is the best fabric for outdoor cushions?
As outdoor cushions are often left outside, it’s important that the fabric is waterproof, or water resistant to prevent them from damage. Polyester or cotton canvas are popular choices as these heavy duty fabrics won’t fade from water or sun exposure easily. Make sure the cushion filling is waterproof too.
Depending on the positioning of your garden, you might need something to block out direct sun. Opt for a bright parasol, like our Genoa model in orange (pictured here with our Barbados bar set). Finish off the look with colourful hanging lights, so you can keep the party going well after sunset.
Crisp & clean
For a clean, minimal outdoor vibe, go all-white – or as all-white as you can. This is a perfect outdoor dining look, and our Mustique rattan dining set ticks all the right boxes.
This set can seat eight guests, but tucks away for easy storage, making this ideal for smaller gardens and patios as well as larger ones. Lay your table with a classic bone china set like our Blanc range, and transform even a casual dinner into an elegant affair.
Finish off the look with a few white potted plants – orchids, hydrangeas or lilies are great options. Even if your outdoor area doesn’t get enough light to sustain real plants, no one will be able to tell the difference with one of our faux ones, like our Bamburgh potted orchid.
From minimal chic to bold and brilliant, we hope these trends inspire you to give your outdoor space a style refresh this summer!
