It’s time to get cosy as thoughts fall to evenings wrapped up on the sofa and long weekend mornings in bed. The accessories you choose are key to both the style and comfort level you want to achieve in your home. Textures, fabric and colour will play a key role in achieving both your cosy goals and your design goals, so we’ve collated our top tips to help you choose the perfect accessories for you and your home.
Fabric & Textures
If you’re aiming for a relaxed chic or boho look, then wool, mohair and chunky knit are your best friends. Combine these fabrics with neutral colour tones with splashes of warmth for a more rustic feel. For a plush, luxe look, turn to silks and velvet.
Silk and velvet do work well in neutral tones, if this suits your décor. However, the nature of these fabrics make bright bold colours really pop. Think of velvet inky blues and silk blush pinks on a chaise lounge or king size bed, very luxurious.
For your sofa cushions, instead of matching them directly to the sofa colour, choose complimenting colours or draw from colours in the room to create a sense of balance and continuity which will draw the eye around the room.
Warm and neutral colours are a no-brainer for getting an easy cosy look but if you want bolder colours and feel unsure of what goes together, pull up a colour wheel for reference. These are easy to find online and you can reference from your phone screen with ease. Colours opposite each other will compliment (e.g. orange & blue) and colours either side of your choice will also suit.
Mix & Match
When your accessories are perfectly uniform and matching, the overall look can be stiff and not as inviting. To achieve that cosy welcoming feel, don’t be afraid to mix colours, patterns and fabrics to create an eclectic look with your cushions and throws.
Our top tip for keeping your mix and match under control: choose 2 main fabrics and a maximum of 3 core colours to work your choices around. This way there’ll still be lots of choice but you won’t get overwhelmed and the finished look will be professional and unique.
We’re in love with the Belgravia throw this season. Throw it casually over the back of a chair or sofa, or let it fall at the base of your bed for an effortlessly luxurious look.
