The beginning of the year is always a busy time for our buyers, as there are lots of furniture and accessories exhibitions for them to visit. Everything from new season sofas to Christmas 2017 is being decided right now, so we thought we’d give you a sneaky look into what’s been going on behind the scenes!

With Christmas still fresh in our minds, what better time to start shopping for the next one? A trip up to Yorkshire provided all the festive products we could need and made Christmas last that little bit longer in the office, much to the dismay of the buyers. It’s a long wait until you’ll see what’s in store but we’re confident you’ll love it all.

Cologne 1

The furniture year started with a trip to mainland Europe, and the IMM Cologne Furniture and Living Show. At the exhibition, we saw a great range of sofas and some potentially interesting colour trends beginning to emerge. Throw in some fantastic shots of the scenery and you’ve got the makings of a successful trip!

Furniture Show NEC

Soon after, our buyers were busy again with the January Furniture Show. Closer to home this time, both furniture and home accessories buyers were out in force in Birmingham at the NEC. There was a distinctly tropical vibe, with flamingos and pineapples everywhere from ornaments to wallpaper. Vibrant greens also had more than their fair share of exposure – be sure to keep an eye out to see if these trends take off later in the year.

maison et objet exhibition

February saw a touch of French style on the exhibition circuit, with Maison et Objet in Paris. Here again, the green trend stood out; it seems as though Pantone’s Colour of the Year, Greenery, was the perfect pick. Pink also made itself known in Paris, with bold shades being paired with geometric shapes, suggesting interiors will be far from shy this year.

Spring Fair

February also played host to the Spring Fair, seeing a return to Birmingham for our buyers. Staged over 4 days, there was inspiration to be found around every corner. The metallic trend looks set to continue, taking on a softer gold tone contrasted with angular shapes and intricate textures.

Keep your eyes peeled for these emerging trends throughout the next year. What are you excited to see take off? We’d love to know!
