Over the last few weeks we’ve been looking at Christmas colour schemes; giving you hints, tips, and crafty tutorials to help you create a look you’ll love. Last time we delved a little further into a Scandi-style white and green theme and this week it’s the turn of our second look; red and grey.

Whilst red is a traditional colour that’s long been associated with Christmas, grey is often by-passed for its glitzier sister, silver. In spite of this, grey can make a beautiful addition to your seasonal decorations, tempering the boldness of bright colours, whilst lending your chosen scheme a contemporary edge.

Red & Grey

When it comes to decorating your tree, shimmering red baubles combined with wooden decorations in a matte grey finish will look super chic and will really glow when interspersed with small, twinkling LED lights. If you want to add another colour try incorporating small white pieces – these will complement other decorations without detracting too much from your key theme.

Tables will look gorgeous festooned with tapered red candles and sprigs of holly laden with scarlet berries. Bring in dove grey crackers tied with a satin ribbon and striped candy canes placed on each napkin for a fun, yet sophisticated finishing touch.

One of the best things about this colour pairing is the range of hues available. From pillar box red through to deep burgundy and rich cerise, there are loads of gorgeous shades to choose from, so don’t be afraid to be a little adventurous.
