Cooking up a storm...
May 2007
It's the hub of the home, a sanctuary for every member of the family after a hard day at the office or in school, and most importantly, the place where food is cooked, served and more often than not, eaten.

Now more than ever we are realising the importance of the family in our hectic lives, and that it is really important to have the right environment which everyone can come back to after a hard day work. Here at Fishpools we are more aware of this than most, and are confident that we can help you make the perfect choice when choosing a new look for your kitchen or diner. Leave the hard part to us - all you have to do is make a choice from the extensive ranges available!
The centrepiece of your kitchen will be the table. Get this part right and you are onto a winner. Think about your current interior and what style you think will go best with what it is you are trying to achieve, and then work around it. For example, if you have a very traditional room then go for something that will compliment this look, like Fishpools' Monastery or Flagstone tables. If your kitchen has an altogether more contemporary look then maybe the glass topped Hawaii or the marble and oak Atlantis will be more up your street.
A popular style emerging at the moment combines vintage chic with French elegance, and the hand painted Romance white dining collection will whisk you away to far off Mediterranean climes.
For classic elegance, take a look at the Irish Coast collection - perfect for the traditionalist, in solid reclaimed pine it is great value and looks really beautiful in a simple, country-cottage type setting.
Time to get technical - the structural elements of your kitchen will determine the best choice of colour to use. Think hard about the amount space you have to play with and the amount of natural light supplied to the room. A plain white background is a simple yet effective way to open up small, slightly cramped spaces, and will provide more of a sunny feel - perfect now that summer is with us!
With the colour of your kitchen walls chosen, it would be a shame to let your kitchen units let your look down. This year we have seen the emergence of soft, delicate pastel hues - with baby blues, creams and even a few pinks in there for good measure. This colour palette creates a very soft look in the first instance, so to make it a little more dramatic looking choose the same colour units as your walls to bring your kitchen to life.
If your budget doesn't stretch to a new kitchen then there are still ways to achieve this look. Bring in colour with kitchen gadgets and accessories, a cheap and effective way to give it a re-vamp. There are heaps of new designs around which you will be desperate to put out in display and not kept hidden away in cupboards.
Lighting should be given special consideration, and spotlights are always a safe bet. They can be fitted in different ways - inside cupboards, under units and inside display cabinets. Lots of different sources of light in a kitchen will make the area cheerful and bright.
Last, but certainly not least, you need to think about your floor. Fishpools' range of flooring can provide you with the perfect base for your kitchen, and include designer ranges such as Amtico and Karndean.
Whichever look you choose to go for, Fishpools have so much to offer in the way of choice, help and advice, that you cannot fail to cook up a storm!
